A history of innovation

CVTs for small and medium – sized cars have been produced in Europe since 1974.

One of the earliest models to incorporate such a CVT was the DAF 66 Variomatic, which was described as brilliantly driveable with a high fun factor.

Since then, the company as well as its technology have gone through various evolutions:

1972 Foundation of the company “DAF Produktie Sint-Truiden N.V.”
1975 Take over by Volvo as “Volvo Car Produktie Sint-Truiden N.V.”
1989-1991 Construction of new CVT-plant in Sint-Truiden
1992 Opening of new Development centre (EC)
1998 Take over of CVT-activities by ZF (ZFST)
2006 Take over by Punch International
2008 Start up first Punch plant in China, Nanjing
2009/5 LRM takes a 30 % stake of company shares
2010/3 Entry of GIMV and Capricorn as shareholders, Punch International leaving the capital structure.
