A history of innovation
CVTs for small and medium – sized cars have been produced in Europe since 1974.
One of the earliest models to incorporate such a CVT was the DAF 66 Variomatic, which was described as brilliantly driveable with a high fun factor.
Since then, the company as well as its technology have gone through various evolutions:
| 1972 | Foundation of the company “DAF Produktie Sint-Truiden N.V.” |
| 1975 | Take over by Volvo as “Volvo Car Produktie Sint-Truiden N.V.” |
| 1989-1991 | Construction of new CVT-plant in Sint-Truiden |
| 1992 | Opening of new Development centre (EC) |
| 1998 | Take over of CVT-activities by ZF (ZFST) |
| 2006 | Take over by Punch International |
| 2008 | Start up first Punch plant in China, Nanjing |
| 2009/5 | LRM takes a 30 % stake of company shares |
| 2010/3 | Entry of GIMV and Capricorn as shareholders, Punch International leaving the capital structure. |
